Post-Natal Massage
Post-Natal Massage
Post-Natal Massage or Postpartum Massage is a full-body massage that can help ease women into motherhood by offering both physical and emotional benefits. It is going to help regulate postpartum hormones and help you heal faster. Hormone regulation is essential to continue the stimulation of breast milk and can also reduce the anxiety that comes with being a new mom. Your hormones are at their highest at birth, but then drop off sharply after. This is why so many mothers become depressed or have trouble breastfeeding. You are going to be spending a lot of time tending to the new baby. You may not realize that you are holding your head differently while breastfeeding, or standing with a bit of a slouch which can cause muscle tightness. Massage will help relieve the soreness from those tense and tight muscles. Not to mention, your body is still healing, and massage is a great way to facilitate that. As a general rule, following a vaginal delivery, you can receive a massage as soon as you feel comfortable and would like to. Following a cesarean delivery, the standard recommendation is 4-6 weeks; after which point your incision will have healed and you will feel comfortable lying face down on the table.
